Foul Play Protest
Tuesday May 26 2026
Hello colleagues and friends, Please take a moment to learn here about an urgent issue that needs our attention. I’ve worked alongside unhoused people for 20 years. Throughout that time, I’ve heard countless stories of violence, harassment, and abuse at the hands of private security, special constables, and police. These experiences have become so common, and the barriers to justice so overwhelming, that many unhoused people simply come to expect this treatment as part of surviving homelessness. Why I am reaching out to you today is because… things are escalating. As FIFA approaches, the city’s push to ‘clean up the streets’ has meant more policing, more displacement, and more violence toward unhoused people, especially around Union Station and other FIFA hot spots. We’re told this is about ‘safety’. But whose safety are we protecting, and who are we willing to harm, for the sake of appearances? At TUHU, we’ve been conducting outreach at Union Station to provide care and to document people’s experiences. What we’ve heard has been devastating: consistent and shocking stories of harassment, intimidation, discrimination, and physical violence. Later this week, we’ll release a TUHU report sharing what more than 50 unhoused people have shared with us directly. We cannot let these stories stay hidden. Please join us on Tuesday, May 26 at 10am at Berczy Park (35 Wellington St. E.) for a rally and demonstration calling for care and immediate action. Please see poster! At the rally:
